My weekend was two things, amazing and busy! So busy in fact that I had to take Monday to recoup. Though it was busy and didn’t quite pan out the way I planned in my head, everything worked itself out and I enjoyed it immensely. So let’s talk about what I did;
Frday night at the Media Reception for #17DaysofFashion
Friday was day one of the #17DaysOfFashion which is now entering its fourth year of celebrating three C’s: Community, Charity, and Couture. I attended the Media Reception hosted by the creator of Philadelphias #17DaysofFashion, Anthony Henderson, at Jollies Live. The event was very nice with wings, meatballs and salad severed and the specialty drink of a CherryTini. I was able to mix and mingle with everyone from makeup artist and hairstylists to boxers and city councilmen. Not to mention the several other bloggers that was in attendance as well. I enjoyed the event and look forward to attending some of the other events later this week. Saturday, I woke up late, and rushed to wash, blow dry, and set my hair because I had to make my 1:30p bus to make it to New York in time for #KissesForCancer. Can you believe I almost missed the bus? A real friend pretends to cant find her ticket to stall the bus driver, thanks Nola. Anywho, we made it to New York, stopped at Starbucks, and headed to our friends home to change into our evening attire. We made it to #KissesForCancer at about 8:00p and the event was well underway, but we were able to hear a young man give his speech about his journey with cancer, be introduced to the trifecta that is IAMSHE Inc., and spend time Tassika. I would speak about finally meeting Tassika, but that would take a whole new post. We Sipped specialty cocktails, mixed and mingled, and ran into some new and old faces in the crowd. The event was filled with laughter, a few tears, and lots of love. Love for each other and love for everyone in the rooms who cancer had touched, and by a show of hands when asked, that was everyone!
I have on a #DNTN "Peace to my Broken Heart" T-shirt & Shady has on a #KRT "Queens Inspire Kings" crewneck. Both are Philly brands!

Sunday afternoon we made our way back to Philly with enough time to eat, rest, and change clothes and then made our way to Voices in Power open mic night. Voices in Power is every first and third Sunday of the month and is held a local lounge, Jollys Piano Bar. This was my first time at this specific open mic night and I really liked it. It was a very calm but comfortable setting that I would suggest to any poet or comedian to come to if they is interested on sharing their talents on stage. Though the crowd was small sometimes that intimacy is needed when first becoming a spoken word artist or trying a new set for a crowd. You can like the Facebook fan page or follow Voices In Power on twitter to keep up with events. Afterwards we hit up Landmark Americana for the late night happy hour menu.
All in and all we decided this was an Eat, Love, Pray kind of weekend that everyone needs sometimes, and I encourage everyone to do so. As for this week, it is definitely another busy one. Tonight I’ll be at the Bold, Brown and Beautiful panel discussion about self esteem, skin color, and black images in the media hosted by Ashley Coleman of http://www.writelaughdream.com/
I hope everyone had a great weekend and makes the rest of their week productive.
